Gavea-Brown Publications was founded in 1980 under the auspices of the Center for Portuguese and Brazilian Studies,Brown University, its purpose being to make Portuguese literature and culture better known in the English-speaking world. With such a broad as well as ambitious objective, its plan was to publish titles in such rather diverse areas as translations of Portuguese literature, works relating to Portuguese Studies, and original creative works, in English or in Portuguese, which in some way reflect the interactions of Portuguese and American cultures, particularily those offering insight into the experience of the Portuguese in the United States. The press also publishes a journal, Gavea-Brown, which is especially dedicated to work in this last area.

This online bookstore was created in early 2009 primarily to allow greater access to our many Portuguese-American publications. It is our pleasure to share these works with you and we hope you enjoy them as we have.
